Workshops

We love supporting purpose-driven groups to learn and grow capacity to design for harmony and navigate tensions generatively.

We offer virtual workshops to the public, with registration via eventbrite.

We also love to work with you to design the right customized workshop for your group! See below for examples of previous offerings.

Conflict Transformation 101

Disagreements and tensions are inevitable, especially when we’re trying to change the world. Too often, organizing for a more just world gets stalled or derailed by poorly handled and/or avoided conflicts. We need all of us more than ever! So let's embrace the gifts of conflict and turn towards each other when the going gets tense. This workshop offers an orientation to generative conflict and principled struggle, as well as space to begin surfacing some requests and principles that can support us when conflict arises in our organizing.

Clear & Effective Decision Making

Decision making can be a place where a lot of assumptions and unconscious power dynamics come into play, which can be a set-up for conflict. But it doesn’t have to be! In this workshop we’ll review different approaches to decision making and identify what each model offers. We’ll explore what needs your group has around how decisions are made, and identify some specific practices your group can try on to support transparent, agile, and accountable decisions.

How to Clear Conflict

This workshop will orient participants on how to prepare for, initiate, and undertake a courageous conversation to clear tensions using the framing of “clearing conversations,” introduced to us by colleague, Armando Kirkwood-Davila.

Designing Purposeful, Strategic Groups

In our years of work supporting groups, we’ve found that tensions arise when groups haven’t clarified their purpose, direction, and practices. That’s also when supremacist culture patterns take hold, recreating the oppressive dynamics we’re trying to dismantle. This workshop offers an introduction to some of the foundational frameworks and tools we’ve found useful for groups of any size.

Unlocking Our Conflict Habits

Our embodied self-understanding and collective practice can make a conflict generative. In this workshop, we will identify our limiting conflict habits and their liberatory counterparts. We will explore how to work with these patterns for deepened understanding of our individual and group needs.

Joyful Accountability

Often when we hear about accountability, it usually means something went wrong and someone needs to pay. There’s a way beyond punishment! Supporting group members in contributing towards a shared purpose can be joyful and energizing. This workshop will explore how to proactively support commitment, creativity, and communication that holds each other with care and rigor.

Shared Leadership & Distributed Power

Many of us care deeply about practicing our values in the ways we work together, including elements like fairly distributed power and genuine participation. But dominant culture structures don’t teach us how to do this well. What capacities are needed personally, interpersonally, and collectively to make peer governance, consent, autonomy, and shared leadership functional? This workshop looks at what needs to be in place to make shared leadership and distributed power possible in groups, and what capacities (relational, decision-making, and group design) support us to practice sharing power.
